Okanje Donates Law Chamber To RSU

Board Chairman, Elano Investments Limited, Chief Gomba Okanje has donated a well furnished Law Chamber to the Faculty of Law, Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt.
In his speech at the official commissioning and handover of the Law Chamber to the University, Chief Okanje, said the singular act of gesture is a way of giving back to the society for the benefit of the masses. He said education is the foundation for development, and that he will continue to contribute his own quarter to the promotion of education in Rivers State and beyond.
He further stated that the Law Profession has come to stay owing to the facts that human existence is at all times faced with litigations. He said the Law Chamber which is an exact picture of what the conventional Law Courts looks like will help growing lawyers to have a firsthand picture and practice of Court proceedings to open them up to realities of their profession even before graduation.
In his speech, Dean, Faculty of Law Rivers State University, Prof O.V.C. Okene who was represented by Dr. Obugheni Williams Arugu, LAWSAN Staff Adviser commended Chief Gomba Okanje for his benevolence donating a Law Chamber to Law Students for academic purpose. He said the Department of Law of the University will remain grateful to him.
He assured that the facility will be put to judicious use to benefit the students. He equally called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the kind gesture of Chief Okanje. He appealed for the donation of a bus and also look into providing scholarship awards to Eleme students in the faculty.
Another Lecturer in the Faculty, Dr. Ebiemere Osaro who is a native of Eleme where Okanje hailed from said he was proud that the highest singular contribution so far made to development of the RSU Law Faculty was by an individual was the donation by Chief Okanje, an Eleme person.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the tape to declare the chambers open by Chief Okanje who later presided over the inaugural parliamentary session of the newly commissioned chambers.
In an interview shortly after the inauguration of the Chambers, President of the Rivers State University Law Students Association (LAWSAN), Godswill Alikor said the Law Chamber donated by Chief Okanje is the first of its kind in Nigeria, adding that RSU Law Faculty is privileged to have a Law Chambers fully equipped and an of standard. He thanked Chief Gomba Okanje for the show of charity and promised to judiciously use the Chambers. He said, the Chambers will expose students to practical training of happenings in he conventional Court proceedings.
