    Lawan, Gbajabiamila Leads 9th National Assembly

    Senator Ahmed Lawan has crossed the threshold of 54 votes required to win the election as President of the 9th Senate. There are 109 Senate seats but only 107 were present at the inauguration. This meant that the winner only required an absolute majority of 54 votes to win. Lawan has crossed the threshold leading to jubilation by APC senators. At the end of counting, Lawan garnered 79 votes while his challenger, Ali Ndume polled 28 votes.     JAMB, Institutions Approve 160 As Cut-Off Mark For 2019 Admission

    The 19th Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria has approved 160 and above as the national minimum benchmark for admission for the year 2019 into public Universities. NAN reports that the meeting held at Bola Babalakin Auditorium, Gbongan, Osun State, on Tuesday also approved 140 as minimum UTME score for admission into private universities. For public polytechnic, 120 UTME score was approved, while 110 score was approved as the least score for admission into private polytechnic.

    In a move to resolve the soot challenge facing Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has inaugurated the Technical Committee for the implementation of the Recommendations of the Rivers State Government Report on Soot.     The NNPC, Nigeria’s state owned oil giant has announced that 132 companies had submitted bids for the 2019 crude for refined products programme tagged Direct Sale, Direct Purchase (DSDP). The bidders, according to a list exclusively obtained include Trafigura and Mercuria, the international trading companies that have featured prominently in the crude for product swap regime but have paid zero taxes to the Nigerian state, neither do they employ Nigerians nor do they have operations anywhere in the country.
