    Presidential Panel Recommends Establishment of State Police, Buhari Gives Approval

    The Presidential Panel on SARS reforms has called for the establishment of state and local government police adding that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendations. This was contained in the statement by the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission and Chairman Presidential Panel on SARS Reform, Anthony Ojukwu. According to the report, submitted on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the President also approved the dismissal of 37 police officers as recommended by the Rights Commission.     Police spokesman, Frank Mba, has revealed that Nigerians have the right to search policemen in certain situations when the officers are about to carry out inspections.     Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered Andrew Yakubu, a former General Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), to open his defence on July 3, 2019 in the $9.8 million fraud allegation brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).     Reps Pass Bill To Allow Married Women Choose State of Origin

    The House of Representatives has passed the ‘Bill for an act to amend the Federal Character                         Commission (Establishment, etc) Act, 2010, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, Cap F7′ which allows married Nigerian women to choose their state of origin. The bill gives married women the option of indigeneship as it presents the option of choosing the indigeneship of either their father or husband if passed into law.     JAMB Remits N5b To FG From 2019 UTME

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it remitted N5 billion to the Federal Government’s purse after the conduct of its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This is contained in the board’s weekly bulletin signed by the JAMB’s Head of Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin.     The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has written to President Muhmmadu Buhari over the released guidelines by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on granting financial autonomy to Local Governments.     The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has terminated its boats pilotage monitoring and supervision agreement with Intels Nigeria Limited. Intels is a leading integrated logistics and facilities services provider in the maritime and oil and gas logistics sectors of the economy said to be owned by Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the PDP.     FG Awards $3.9b Contract For Warri Seaport

    The Federal Government has approved the building of a new seaport in Warri at a cost of $3.9 billion. Contract has also been awarded for the rail connecting Abuja with Warri and Itakpe and Abuja, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi said. Amaechi told NAN in Abuja that the rail would also link the new seaport in Warri saying that about $45 billion dollars would be needed to complete rail development in the country.
