Crime: Okparaji Reads Riot Act To Traditional Rulers, Youths

The Executive Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon. (Barr.) Philip Okparaji  has called on all stakeholders in the area including traditional rulers and youth bodies to eschew criminality, warning that no traditional ruler or youth body found wanting would be spared in the current effort to rid the area of criminal tendencies.

He said in accordance with Governor Wike’s directive any traditional ruler or youth leader found wanting would be dissolved or removed.

The chairman stated this shortly after a security meeting he conveyed which had security agencies and traditional rulers in attendance. He said with the meeting, the security agencies have been able to detect some causes of the insecurity and the flash points where crime takes place.

His word: “Today, we had a security meeting where all the security agencies are traditional rulers were in attendance. The meeting was aimed at addressing the security challenges in Eleme

“Just like the governor gave a directive to traditional rulers and council chairmen to be in charge to put an end to security challenges in their local governments and within their locality, today we convoked a meeting to address this security challenges in Eleme but I want to thank the security agencies for their support, we have mapped out where these criminals are, and we are going to go after them.

Just like the governor said, let me say it loud and clear, traditional rulers must work with the council hand in hand for us to achieve a commendable result, the youths must work with the council, so also all other stakeholders. We are already partnering with the security agencies but we need the support of all and sundry.

“Like we resolved today, whosoever wants to disrupt or disturb the peace of Eleme will face the law. We will not tolerate it. If you are a chief and want to cause crisis or confusion in your domain, we will not tolerate it. Appropriate sanction will be imposed on such a chief, if you are a youth leader, you must be up and doing, you must work with the council.

Security is for everybody, so I will appeal to them to cooperate with me, with the council to seek a way forward to tackle these security challenges. We must end kidnapping, cultism and all forms of criminalities, the security agencies have given me their firm promise that they would tackle it head-on and that Eleme must be peaceful and secured.

We have investors and people living here, so they said they would take up the challenges and go after these people that want to cause unending crises, who don’t want the people to sleep.

“For us as a council, we won’t tolerate this again. Any traditional ruler or youth body that is not living up to expectation will be dissolved, Eleme people must enjoy peace and sleep with their two eyes closed, enough is enough”, he warned.
