Local Govt. Audit: Inside Eleme Peeps Into Performance of Okparaji, Councilors

 

Following the reprimand of local government chairmen in Rivers State by Governor Nyesom Wike for under-performance since assumption of office one year ago, the editorial team of Inside Eleme Newspaper will in its next edition publish the report of opinion poll and street interviews conducted across different strata of individuals in the 10 wards in Eleme Local Government Area on the performance of Philip Okparaji’s led administration since one year in office.

Other elected officers to be assessed are the Vice Chairman of Council, Miss Grace Osaronu, Leader of the Eleme Legislative Assembly, Hon. Nyime Ngelale and other Councilors of the ten wards in Eleme Local Government Area.

A draft copy of the questionnaire being distributed showed the chairman’s one year performance is being assessed in areas of security of lives and properties in Eleme, provision of basic amenities especially potable water supply, electricity and access roads, youth empowerment scheme and job creation, support for students’ groups such as NAES and other socio-cultural ethnic development organizations such as O-E’la Obor Eleme.

Other areas are IGR, engagement of the people and corporate bodies in the area, payment of emoluments of LG staff and those of political appointees, working relationship with councilors and party stalwarts amongst others.

On the other hand, the Councilors will be assessed on the number of bills and bye-laws that have been considered and passed to boost people’s welfare and give a new lease of life in the area. Other areas are ward development projects embarked upon by the councilors as it was during the administration of Hon. Oji Ngofa as Chairman of Council and Hon. Sylvanus Sanwi as Leader of the Legislative Assembly which saw Hon. Eson Akarada deliver market stalls at Ogale Small Market, while Hon. Chu Obo Abbey of Aleto did a town hall project as well as others.
