NSCDC Commandant Visits King Obele • Seeks Assistance

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), Eleme Chapter, CSC Dawud Yanus Apalando has paid a familiarization visit on the Acting King of Eleme Land, His Royal Majesty, King (Dr.) Philip Osaro Obele JP.

Apalando who visited the Acting King in company of some of his officers said it is the custom of the corps to visit the traditional custodians of any place where they are posted to familiarize in order to ensure smooth and cordial relationship.

He mentioned some of the challenges the security outfit is facing in the local government area which according to him are hampering its operations. “We are passing through a lot. We have challenges of no office accommodation, no vehicle to move around to carry out our duties effectively and other logistics”, he stated.

He pleaded with the Majesty and his council of chiefs to see how the NSCDC could be aided to carry out its tasks effectively especially in this time where insecurity is on the increase.

Responding, the Acting King of Eleme Land, His Royal Majesty, King (Dr.) Philip Osaro Obele welcomed the visitors and assured them of the support of the traditional institution in Eleme Local Government Area to stem the tide of insecurity bedeviling the area.

    His words: “We have heard you and your plight; we would put our heads together to see what we can do because insecurity is not what one person will fight. The society now is different from what it was years back, during the time of our forefathers. In those days, it was not like this, people had disagreements and still settled, not through shooting and killing but since we have met it this way, we must solve it. It is left for us to come together and proffer solutions.

“We have heard what you have presented. What we will do is to work together and carry this challenges of yours to places we believe we will get listening ears so that you can work well. Considering the sensitive nature of your work, you need armory, without vehicle you will be grounded, you can’t attend to distress calls, so we will do our little best. We are assuring you that we will work with you and we pray that God should help you and give you the enablement to better the society”, he prayed.

Also speaking, President General of O-E’la Obor Eleme, Chief (Elder) Israel Abbey who was part of the king of Eleme team on ground to receive the visiting Security Corp charged the Commandant to carry out his duties without fear or favour, adding that, the O-E’la Obor Eleme, the apex socio-cultural organization of Eleme people will give total support to the NSCDC.

In his words: “Just carry out your duty very well, we will do our best to see how your plights are attended to”.

On his part, His Royal Highness, Chief T.E.K. Akobe, Paramount of Ruler of Eteo Clan, who formally presented the Commandant to the Acting King Obele, also urged the Commandant to endeavour to discharge his duties wholeheartedly and bring to an end pipeline vandalism and insecurity in the area.

In a chat with the Commandant, he advised the people of Eleme to partner with security agencies to tackle insecurity in the area. “First, the issue of insecurity is not the duty of security agents alone, the community; the residents have a role to play to join in the fight against crime.

“For those perpetrating these crimes, I appeal to them to hands off crime, there are lots of measures being taken now to tackle all these and anyone indicted will face it. It is better they engage themselves in vocational activities or anything that will profit them”, he advised.
