The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Candidate for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Eleme Constituency in the 2019 election, Hon. Aforji Igwe has received royal blessing from His Royal Highness, Dr. Appolus Chu, the Egbere Emere Okori Eleme.
Speaking during his visit to the royal father, the Assembly candidate said the essence of his visit was to seek the blessings and support of His Royal Highness, Appolus Chu. He expressed fervent belief in the efficacy of the royal pronouncement of King Appolus Chu, stressing that it would help to propel him to victory at the polls.
Igwe assured that if he wins, he would ensure unity, peace and prosperity of the people despite their different political leanings.
He added that everyone is a leader and as such should take responsibility in ensuring that Eleme land is peaceful. He described His Royal Highness Appolus Chu as a man who has leadership traits emphasizing that through him, Ogale and Eleme has been developed.
Responding, His Royal Highness, Emere Okori Eleme, King Appolus Chu described the visit to his palace by Hon. Aforji Igwe and his team as a kind gesture.
He expressed total disagreement with Eleme political elites who he said think they could play on the intelligence of Eleme people for their personal aggrandizement and putting aside matters bordering on the overall interest of the people.
Dr. Appolus Chu also stressed that he would remain apolitical following his position as a traditional ruler who is only saddled with the responsibility of presenting eligible candidates who have made themselves available for public service.
He said God is the giver of power, pointing out that some Eleme leaders and politicians have reduced Eleme people in their minds as cheap and hungry who they can always exploit at any given point in time for their selfish gain.
He further said there are two categories of leaders in Eleme – those who are genuinely concerned about the challenges and problems of Eleme with an unusual commitment to providing lasting solutions, while the other category are people who examine the economic value of Eleme with regards to their self-profitability thus seeking for political or traditional offices as a platform for gaining access to the companies and operating in the area in order to do business.
He expressed optimism that the PDP flag bearer for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Engr. Aforji Igwe would provide lasting solution to the challenges bedeviling Eleme kingdom and urged him to make good use of his office if elected.
According to Appolus, time has come for people and the leaders in Eleme to embrace the good and eschew all the wrong things for Eleme to move forward. He regretted that the territorial boundaries of Eleme have been thrown open for even ordinary termites to invade and capture due to failed leadership and representation.
He, however, called on politicians to support the traditional institutions as well as promote the culture and tradition of the Eleme people.
He thereafter blessed Hon. Aforji Igwe, and prayed God to give him the grace to emerge in the forthcoming general election, even as he said the eyes of the wicked ones would not behold him.
In a vote of thanks, the Executive Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon. Philip Okparaji who was present thanked King Appolus Chu for his royal blessings. He also thanked supporters of Hon. Aforji Igwe and prayed God to favour him to win his election.
